Robert Squires

Robert L. “Lewis” Squires, 87, of Frankfort, Indiana passed away September 23, 2011 at Wesley Manor in Frankfort. He was born May 5, 1924 in Auburn, Indiana to Jesse and Helen (Stage) Squires. He married Betty J. Stern on August 19, 1945 in Noblesville and she preceded him in death on March 21, 1992. He then married Alma G. “Jerry” Smith on May 1, 1993 in Frankfort and she survives.;Mr. Squires graduated from Wolcott High School in 1942 where he was a member of the basketball team that beat Brook. He also attended IU at Indianapolis for 2 years. He was the treasurer of the former Indiana Gas Company for 47 years and retired on August 1, 1988. Lewis was a past member of the Frankfort Elks, Eagles Lodge in Noblesville, Kiwanis, and the Lions Club in Frankfort. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1981 by John Brown Jr., Governor of Kentucky. He was also a member of the following organizations: National Association of Accountants, Indiana Gas Association General Accounting Committee, American Gas Association General Accounting Committee, Chairman and Vice Chair of AGA General Accounting Committee, Treasurer of IGA 1979 to 1988, Assistant Secretary of IGA 1986 to 1988, AGA Outstanding Service Award 1984, Co-Author of 2nd Edition of Introduction to Utility Accounting Textbook, Jackson Township Trustee 1970 to 1986, Jackson Township Advisory Board 1966 to 1970, and Clinton County Health & Hospital Foundation 1989 to 2000.;Surviving along with his wife are Son: Jon Paul (Joella) Squires of Pendleton, 3 Step-Daughters: Sandi (Dave) Herrick of Frankfort, Peg Smith of Alexandria, Cathie (Jerry) Neidlinger of Frankfort, Dear Family Friend: Mesha McCarty of Anderson, Sister: Elizabeth Howat of Francesville, IN, 2 Grandchildren: Ryan Lewis Squires and Nicholas Paul Squires of Pendleton, 8 Step-Grandchildren: Amy (Tim) Reinhardt of Lebanon, Chad (Tya) Smith, Michael (Amy) Herrick, Cindy (B.J.) Hoffman, Andrew Herrick, Carrie Neidlinger, Jeremy Neidlinger, and Kendra Weaver all of Frankfort, 7 Step-Great-Grandchildren: Hadley, Walker and Joseph Reinhardt, Kyler, Brandon, and Emily Mosson, and Ashlyn Herrick;He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife: Betty and a brother: George Squires.;Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Archer-Weston Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2011 at the funeral home. Entombment will be at the Green Lawn Mausoleum in Frankfort. Memorial donations may be made to the Memory Care Unit at Wesley Manor with envelopes available at the funeral home.
