Forrest “Roger” Mullendore, 96, of Colfax, Ind., passed away on February 23, 2020 at Mulberry Health, Mulberry, Ind.  He was born on January 24, 1924 in Delphi, Ind. to Larry G. & Mollie (Hathaway) Mullendore.  He married Jo Ann Miller on November 4, 1944 and they celebrated their 75th anniversary in November of 2019 in Mulberry.

Roger was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1943-1946 during WWII. He worked for Colfax Grain for 20 years and Shoestring Sausage Pizza Topping for 24 years.  He retired in 1986. Roger was a member of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Frankfort, Ind. He enjoyed antique tractor pulling, fishing, mushroom hunting and spending time with family.  Roger and Jo Ann enjoyed spending winters in Florida and in 2018 were voted Mr. & Mrs. Hickory at the Old Hickory Days in Colfax.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2020 at Archer-Weston Funeral and Cremation Center, 501 E. Clinton, Frankfort. Funeral Celebration will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Kelly Kurth officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery, Colfax, Ind. Memorial donations may be made to First Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

Wife: Jo Ann Mullendore of Colfax, Daughter: Vicki (Bob) Seigfried of Mulberry, 1 Sister: Phyllis Craig of Kokomo, 6 Grandchildren, Amy (Kevin) Hysong of Mulberry, Kerry (Jenny) Mullendore of Clarks Hill, Kris (Jessica) Mullendore of Colfax, Angie Messer of Romney, Stacey (Danny) Brown of Brookston and Brooke Willis of Colorado, 14 Great Grandchildren, Brian Brown, Jaycie Brown and Kaleb Stewart all of Brookston, Garrett Mullendore of Colfax, Kaden Mullendore, Kaylie Mullendore, Braden Mullendore, all of Clarks Hill, Elizabeth Kinslow of Kansas, Skyler Mullendore and Layne Horlacher both of Clarks Hill, Forrest Messer and Ethan Messer of Romney, Lindsay Willis & Dillon Willis of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Gary W. Mullendore, sister, Juanita Myers and 2 brothers, Harold and Ralph Mullendore

    I’m sure going to miss him. I was so blessed to have shared a big part of my life with him. Thank you for the time I got with your son. I love you all. May God be with you through this time.

    I am sure you do not know of me but Rodger was a distant cousin. My father was Frank Barker from California. I had met Rodger many years ago. I am offering my condolences to the family. As I am sure my Dad would of it he were still alive. Prayers to all

    Thinking of you and praying for peace and comfort. You and Roger were such amazing neighbors. When I think of Roger two images come to mind… him on the mower in his white tshirt and hat… and when I was little I would ride on the back of the lawnmower with my mamaw around Colfax…Roger would drive his car right up behind us and lay on the horn! Sending you love!

    Jo Ann, Kris and family,

    I’m thinking of you all at this time! I’ll always picture Roger out on the lawn mower. He sure loved to keep the yard pristine! Although we are only in Colfax a few times a year, my husband and children know him as the “guy on the lawn mower.” You guys were always great neighbors, even when we were kids and there were a bunch of us out running around! You didn’t mind that as adults we brought our children to your yard to watch the Ole Hickory Days parade. He lived a very long life and I’m sure you all have several stories that you will be able to continue to share with the kids to keep his memory alive! Prayers for peace and comfort!

    To the dear family of Roger: I am so sorry to hear of Roger’s passing. He, of course, was family to us, also, as he was our wonderful Stepfather, Ralph’s, Brother and looked so much like him. We spent a lot of good times over the years with all of the family at Reunions, etc. My, Sister, Sonja, and I have always attended as many Reunions as possible and always enjoyed being with Roger and his beautiful Wife Jo Ann and their many family members. He was a wonderful man who seemed to be very happy with life and I know he dearly loved being with his Wife and family. I’m sure he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His family was very fortunate to have him for a wonderful 96 years.

    So sorry for your loss. I grew up right across the street. He would always stop by my grandparents fence and say hello to my brothers and I, and even in my adult years visiting my grandparents if he was outside he would wave to me. He’s a great man and will be dearly missed.
