John Hampton

John Hampton, 93, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Frankfort passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014. He was born on March 16, 1921 in Frankfort to John O. and Naomi (Brammel) Hampton. He married Juanita Goodnight in Lebanon on June 10, 1939 and she preceded him in death on November 21, 2004. John attended Frankfort Schools and served in the Military Railway Service in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. He worked for Norfolk and Western Railroad for over 40 years. His railroad battalion was the first to cross the Rhine River in Germany. He was credited with the capture of 6 German soldiers. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Frankfort for over 50 years, a former member of the Frankfort American Legion, VFW, Eagles, and Moose lodges. John enjoyed boating, spending time at Lake Freeman, and NASCAR racing.

Visitation and Services

iends may visit from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Archer-Weston Funeral & Cremation Center in Frankfort, IN. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include his Sons: Larry R. (Carol) Hampton of Fort Wayne, Kenneth Leroy (Jeannie) Hampton of Ocala, FL, and John E. (Bonnie) Hampton of Fort Wayne; Daughter: Nancy Ragsdale of Grants Pass, OR; 9 Grandchildren; and 28 Great-Grandchildren.

    It is with great sadness to read of your fathers passing. Having grown up living catty corner from each other on W. McClurg St. I remember him and Juanita. If I remember correctly, young John and my brother Jerry Jacks graduated together. We lost our father in 1973 and mom in 2011. So hard losing ones parents. Please accept my deepest condolences.
