Dan E. Tate

Dan E. Tate, 80, of Colfax, Ind., went peacefully to his Heavenly Home while surrounded by family on July 14, 2024.  He was born on December 11, 1943 in Lafayette to Arthur Paul Tate and Pearl Louise (Nelson) Tate Shotts.  He married Barbara J. Black on August 1, 1971 and she survives.

Dan was a 1961 graduate of the Reynolds High School and served in the United States National Guard.  He worked as a machinist at Fairfield Manufacturing for 43 years, retiring in 2008.  Dan was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church, served on the Perry Township Library Board, the Plainview Cemetery Board, and was a former member of the Colfax Lions Club.  He coached Colfax Little League for many years.  He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, and spending time at their cabin on Little Long Lake in Deer River, Minnesota. Dan was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Purdue Boilermakers, Colts, Pacers, and Whitesox.  He especially loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Memorial donations may be made in Dan’s honor to the Colfax United Methodist Church, 114 N. Oakland Street, Colfax, IN 46035 or Franciscan Hospice Care, 1501 Hartford Street, Suite G525, Lafayette, IN 47904.

Visitation and Services

Friends may visit 5 – 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Archer-Weston Funeral & Cremation Center, 501 E. Clinton Street, Frankfort.  A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Colfax United Methodist Church, 114 N. Oakland Street, Colfax.  David Bushfield will officiate.  Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery, Colfax. 

Survived by:

He and Barbara raised 4 children, Joseph (Nicole) Tate of Freehold, New Jersey, Edward (Tina) Tate of Zeigler, Illinois, Liz (David) Mattingly of Colfax, and the late Cheryl Louise Tate, who preceded him in death in 1975.  Also surviving are the “loves of his life”, his 6 grandchildren: Kassidy Tate, Morgan Tate, Tatum Nash, Emma Nash, Riley Tate, and Dannarai Tate, his sister: Loretta Lee Doty of Monticello, and his fur baby: Pete.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, along with sister: Betty Bair, brother: Gene Arthur Tate, nieces: Tina McDaniels and Karen Lee and a nephew: Michael Tate.

    To Barbara; Dan’s children; his sister Loretta I am so sorry to hear about Dan’s passing. As a fellow classmate and we rode on the same school bus; Dan was a great person. May God take him into his heavenly kingdom.
