Ann Vogler Mitchell

May 12, 2018

Ann Vogler Mitchell, 87, of Peoria, IL, formerly of Frankfort, IN, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Peoria.

She was born on July 3, 1930 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Earnest & Pearl Vogler.  Ann was raised by her cousins, Dr. Varner & Maryl Saylor in Zionsville, IN who opened their home to her family during the depression era.  Ann was fortunate to have their support during these trying times in our country.  She married John E. Mitchell on March 18, 1951 in Zionsville, IN.  Ann & John had three children together.  He passed July 18, 1993 in Frankfort, IN.

Ann was a homemaker all her life and a very special partner of her late husband who was a farmer, politician, and newspaper man in Indiana requiring many meetings, social events, and conferences.

Ann was very involved with her two churches, St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Frankfort, IN and First United Methodist Church in Peoria, IL.  She was a devoted choir member with an amazing soprano voice – She had a gift.

She was a world traveler, accompanying her husband to places like Africa, Europe, Hong Kong, Turkey, Egypt plus many more.  Most trips were through the newspaper association, where many friends were made across the Midwest.

Ann was also an avid bridge player and participated in several clubs in Frankfort and Peoria.  Bridge was a game that brought her the opportunity to socialize, as well as an endeavor to try and master the game itself.  She was a member of the YWCA of Peoria, IL, where she was one of the ‘Pool Ladies’ who supported the YWCA through their volunteer efforts along with their daily swim sessions and lunch gatherings afterward.  They were a very dedicated group who supported each other and still try to get together for lunch.

She was a beautiful woman both inside and out.  She will be truly missed.

Jay, Pam & Joe, my sincere heartfelt condolences to you for the loss of your mother. It was an honor to know your parents and to work along side John for many years. I took care of their house on many occassions when they traveled. What a privilege to call Ann and John friends. Actually they were more like adopted parents. Love and prayers to all. Dear Mitchell children and families,

I used to work at the newspaper with your Father. He was a kind man and gave good
advice. I often wish I had listened to him more closely. John and Ann were such a loving couple
who entertained and welcomed people into their home. They were true leaders in our
community and faithful to God. Ann was also a member of the women’s philanthropic
group, Psi Iota Xi, of which I am a member as well. I used to sell her geraniums each year
and enjoyed our visit each spring.

Please find peace in the lasting, loving memories of your dear Mom.

    Sincerely,

    Beth Keeney
